US Advances Sonar Technology to Map Historic Shipwreck

The United States has successfully tested an advanced high-resolution sonar system, identified as µSAS (Micro Synthetic Aperture Sonar), developed by Northrop Grumman in collaboration with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). This technology provides the most detailed images to date of the historic USS Monitor shipwreck from 1862, which lies approximately 73 meters below the ocean surface. The sonar system operates effectively even in murky waters, greatly improving the capability to assess the ship's condition and surrounding marine environment.
