Australia has implemented new digital safety regulations requiring users to verify their age before accessing pornography and other restricted online content. This initiative is part of the "Codes on Age-Restricted Material," which demands stricter safety mechanisms from tech companies to prevent minors from encountering inappropriate material. The Australian eSafety Commissioner emphasized that this move aligns digital barriers with those present in the physical world, reinforcing the need for effective age verification methods beyond simple checkbox affirmations. Noncompliance could result in fines of up to AUD 49.5 million.
