Amazon Invests $12B in AI Data Centers in Louisiana

Amazon has announced a substantial investment of $12 billion to establish new data center campuses in northwestern Louisiana. This initiative aims to enhance the company's AI infrastructure and computing capabilities to stay competitive with prominent rivals such as Google and Microsoft. The new facilities are projected to generate 540 full-time positions and support approximately 1,700 additional jobs in various skilled roles, including electricians and HVAC technicians. To address concerns over rising electricity costs and the depletion of water resources, Amazon is also working with local utility Southwestern Electric Power Company, committing to cover costs for needed energy infrastructure upgrades totaling $400 million along with contributing 200 megawatts of solar energy to the grid.
