RAM Shortage May Persist Until 2030

Recent reports indicate a persistent RAM shortage, with major manufacturers such as Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron only able to meet 60% of projected demand by the end of 2027. Despite efforts to ramp up production through new fabrication facilities, significant increases will not materialize before 2027 or 2028. SK Group chairman has publicly stated that these shortages may extend until 2030, impacting the tech industry as a whole.
This prolonged shortage of DRAM chips creates critical implications for technology advancements, especially in sectors relying heavily on memory capacity. With production needing to increase by 12% annually to meet surging demand, the current output challenges may lead to delayed innovations in sectors like artificial intelligence and data centers, where robust memory capabilities are essential. The struggle to establish sufficient manufacturing capacity will likely maintain heightened prices and continued dependence on existing supply chains.
