Athos Abandons Multi-Vendor Plan for Single Chiplet Design

Athos Silicon, recently spun out from Mercedes-Benz, has changed its strategy to focus on an in-house designed chiplet rather than a multi-chiplet system. The startup, which has significant intellectual property accrued from its previous work with Mercedes, decided this shift after the acquisition of DreamBig, a key supplier, by Arm. Athos's new approach centers around a single system-on-chip (SoC) that integrates third-party CPU, GPU, and NPU components for functional safety in autonomous vehicles.
