Wikipedia Explores AI Usage Amid Declining Traffic

Wikipedia's founder, Jimmy Wales, announced that the platform is currently discussing the future roles that Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems might play within the online encyclopedia. This conversation is in response to an 8% decline in traffic to the site from human readers, largely attributed to AI models like those in Google Search that provide users quick answers without directing them to Wikipedia. Although this decline does not impact the site's ad-free model, concerns arise regarding sustainable funding through donations as users may not recognize information sourced from Wikipedia.
