Kioxia Launches PCIe 5.0 SSDs for Mainstream Clients

Kioxia has launched its BG8 series of SSDs, featuring PCIe 5.0 connectivity aimed at mainstream client applications like laptops and desktops. The new series offers significant performance enhancements over its predecessor, the BG7, achieving peak sequential read speeds of 10,300 MB/s and write speeds of 10,000 MB/s. The BG8 also maintains a DRAM-less architecture, utilizing Host Memory Buffer technology for increased efficiency while keeping production costs lower. This launch marks a notable technical shift in the SSD landscape, allowing OEMs to leverage high-speed data transfer capabilities essential for demanding applications without the need for DRAM, although with a trade-off in performance flexibility compared to DRAM-equipped models.
