Bull Secures €30M for AI-Optimized Mimer Supercomputer

Bull, a former Atos subsidiary, has announced a €30 million ($35 million) contract to provide the Mimer supercomputer at Sweden's Linköping University. This five-year contract, secured through the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking, includes financing from the Digital Europe Programme and the Swedish Research Council. The supercomputer will leverage Bull's BullSequana XH3500 architecture, optimized for AI workloads, and will feature advanced cooling technologies and cloud-style access to enhance user flexibility.

The strategic implications of this development are significant for Sweden's AI and computing landscape. By hosting one of the first AI-focused systems under EuroHPC, this initiative not only promotes local capabilities in advanced AI applications like life sciences and autonomous systems but also signals a move towards greater national autonomy in AI infrastructure. It positions Sweden as a growing hub for AI technology, contributing to the broader European goal of reducing dependency on foreign AI solutions.
