Google Partners to Develop 30 GWh Renewable Energy Storage

Google has partnered with Xcel Energy to build a renewable energy storage facility in Pine Island, Minnesota. The project aims to install a 30 GWh storage system capable of providing 300 MW of power, utilizing iron-air batteries developed by Form Energy, a spinoff from MIT. This facility, noted as the world’s largest battery project based on storage capacity, underscores a significant investment in clean energy infrastructure, as it also involves the construction of new wind and solar energy plants totaling 1.6 GW.
