Japan Airlines Tests Humanoid Robots for Ground Operations

Japan Airlines (JAL) has announced a collaboration with GMO AI & Robotics to pilot humanoid robots at Haneda Airport, starting in May 2023. This initiative represents a response to personnel shortages in ground operations, a situation exacerbated by rising tourism and a declining workforce. The trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of humanoid robots in performing specific tasks like loading and unloading cargo within the constrained spaces of airport environments, deploying efforts in phases until 2028.
