According to the sixth edition of the study 'Educar en la era de la Inteligencia Artificial,' 80% of teachers in Spain are utilising generative AI tools, marking an unprecedented level of adoption in the educational system. More than half of educators report using these tools multiple times a week, indicating a significant structural shift in teaching practices. The National Institute of Technologies in Education and Teacher Training (INTEF) is spearheading this initiative, emphasizing the ethical integration of AI in non-university education through guidelines published in 2025, which align with UNESCO and European Commission frameworks.
The practical impact of AI in education is manifesting in various tasks such as lesson planning, administrative automation, and exam preparation. Over 80% of teachers believe that AI can enhance personalized learning, which aligns with Spain's digital educational policy objectives. This evolving role of educators emphasizes strategic functions that complement technological integration, as highlighted by Fengchun Miao from UNESCO, advocating for a balance of technology, human oversight, and personalized support to empower teachers rather than replace them.
