Hanwha Expands Satellite Capabilities with AI Integration

Hanwha Group is advancing into the global space sector, specifically through Hanwha Systems, which is enhancing its synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite capabilities. Following the successful launch of Korea's first domestically developed small SAR satellite in December 2023, Hanwha is developing next-generation ultrahigh-resolution SAR satellites capable of identifying objects 15 centimeters in size. This will bolster a multiministry-led project to deploy around 40 SAR satellites for enhanced surveillance over the Korean Peninsula and surrounding regions by 2026.

In addition to hardware advancements, Hanwha is integrating artificial intelligence into its satellite data services. This enables near real-time analysis of high-resolution imagery for rapid anomaly detection, enhancing command systems for military applications. Furthermore, efforts to localize satellite technology components aim to strengthen national security and reduce dependency on foreign technology. As the global satellite market expands, Hanwha is positioning itself as a full-spectrum space solutions provider, capturing value across the entire space value chain.
