The Association of American Publishers, representing the Big 5 along with academic publishers like Pearson and Elsevier, called Anna’s Archive a "brazen pirate operation" and alleged it provided stolen content to the AI industry in exchange for crypto payments. Established in 2022, Anna’s Archive aggregates content from legal and illicit databases, complicating enforcement of copyright laws due to its decentralized nature.
