SK hynix Unveils First 1c LPDDR6 Chip for AI Enhancement
SK hynix has unveiled its next-generation 16-gigabit LPDDR6 DRAM chip, built on a sixth-generation 10nm-class 1c process, designed to enhance on-device artificial intelligence (AI) efficiency in mobile devices. This chip, which is set for mass production in the second half of the year, aims to support AI functionalities directly on devices like smartphones and tablets by allowing them to process data locally, thus improving response times and delivering more personalized services. Compared to its predecessor, LPDDR5X, this new chip promises about 33% higher data processing performance at a speed of at least 10.7 gigabits per second, while also reducing power consumption by over 20%.
The introduction of this chip marks a significant advancement in memory innovation that aligns with SK Group's strategic focus on AI semiconductor development. As the demand for AI expands, particularly in mobile environments, efficient memory solutions like this LPDDR6 chip are becoming critical to managing increasing workloads and energy consumption. Chey Tae-won of SK Group highlights that such innovations are essential as AI's energy demands grow, suggesting that this new technology not only supports performance but also addresses sustainability concerns in AI infrastructure.
