Samsung Heavy Opens Maritime Research Hub in US

Samsung Heavy Industries, in collaboration with San Diego State University (SDSU) and the City of San Diego, has inaugurated its first US research facility, the SHI-SDSU Advanced Maritime Center, to advance technological cooperation and enhance the American shipbuilding sector. The center aims to specialize in AI-driven production automation, robotics, and environmentally sustainable shipbuilding technologies, leveraging SDSU’s engineering expertise and proximity to General Dynamics NASSCO, the largest West Coast shipyard.

Strategically positioned to foster industry-academia partnerships, this research hub is expected to bolster the US shipbuilding industry's technological capabilities. By driving the MASGA initiative—"Make American Shipbuilding Great Again"—Samsung Heavy anticipates creating an innovative platform for joint research with US universities, government agencies, and industry stakeholders, ultimately contributing to workforce development and sustainable technology advancements in maritime operations.
