Sierra Leone Deploys Decision-Aware ML for Medicine Access

In a collaborative effort with the national government of Sierra Leone, researchers have developed a decision-aware machine learning framework that aims to optimize the allocation of essential medicines. This novel system addresses the critical challenge of resource allocation in low- and middle-income countries, where limited high-quality data has hindered traditional data-driven approaches. Following a staggered nationwide deployment, the framework reportedly increased the consumption of allocated medicines by approximately 19% in treated districts, demonstrating its effectiveness in improving healthcare access for vulnerable populations.
