France Integrates Lucy Quantum System with Supercomputer

France's CEA has integrated Lucy, a 12-qubit photonic quantum computer, with the Joliot-Curie supercomputer at the Très Grand Centre de Calcul (TGCC). This quantum system, developed by the French startup Quandela under the EuroQCS-France consortium, is set to operationalize within weeks and is positioned as the most powerful photonic quantum computer in Europe. Lucy enhances the TGCC's supercomputing environment, following the earlier integration of the Belenos system. The collaboration promises to support diverse applications like energy grid optimization and aerospace design.

With Lucy, the CEA underscores its commitment to advancing quantum computing. The project exemplifies European cooperation, particularly between France and Germany, aimed at enhancing technological sovereignty. Lucy serves as a sovereign tool facilitating research and expanding the European scientific and industrial ecosystem. This integration may also indicate a future transition from Joliot-Curie to the Alice Recoque exascale machine, further melding quantum and classical computing resources for innovative applications.
