BMW is collaborating with the University of Zagreb's Center of Excellence for Robotic Technologies on Project Insight. This initiative focuses on employing AI models to enhance the efficiency of battery cell manufacturing, aiming to conserve raw materials while reducing both development times and costs associated with battery cells. The company announced this development on Monday, highlighting its commitment to advancing its battery technologies.

The Battery Cell Competence Center in Munich is tasked with the research and development of high-voltage batteries. Through Project Insight, AI will analyze existing testing data and real-time data from current battery production, facilitating better prediction of performance metrics and process parameters. This technology could reduce necessary test iterations by as much as 50%, thus hastening the production process without compromising quality. Additionally, AI may eliminate the need for a quarantine period for finished cells, thereby optimizing storage requirements.
