UK Launches £4M AI Safety Grants to Boost Trust

The UK government has launched a £4 million funding initiative aimed at enhancing AI safety through research grants. Spearheaded by the AI Safety Institute in collaboration with the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and Innovate UK, the program will support projects addressing societal risks linked to AI technologies, such as deepfakes, misinformation, and cybersecurity threats. Up to £200,000 will be available for each of approximately 20 research projects to promote responsible AI development and operational safety, fostering public trust as AI becomes more integrated into the economy.

This initiative is strategically significant as it not only promotes the development of safeguards against potential AI-induced risks but also aligns with the UK’s broader goals of economic growth and productivity enhancement through technology.
