Digi Achieves Historic Growth as Third Operator in Spain

Digi, a Romanian-origin telecom operator, has recently marked a significant achievement by surpassing Vodafone in the fixed broadband customer volume in Spain. As reported by Expansion, Digi's growth is evident in its ability to capture nearly twelve times more users than Vodafone throughout the year, positioning itself as the third-largest operator in the residential market. This growth strategy has been driven largely by aggressive pricing strategies, offering competitive rates for broadband and mobile services.

Despite this impressive customer growth, Digi reported losses of €33 million in 2025, raising concerns about the sustainability of its low-cost strategy. Although major competitors like Telefónica and MásOrange dominate the market, Digi's approach highlights a shift in price competition among operators. Looking ahead to 2026, Digi plans to explore major initiatives, including a potential IPO, while continuing to invest in its fiber deployment and network infrastructure amidst ongoing pressures to maintain profitability with low pricing.
