Germany Falls Behind Canada in AI Talent Race

A recent study from the Berlin think tank Interface reveals a decline in Germany’s AI talent ranks, placing it fifth globally, behind the USA, India, UK, and now Canada. In 2024, Germany held the fourth position with 117,336 AI professionals but has seen Canada surge ahead with 133,280 experts by 2025, highlighting a significant shift in the talent landscape.

This ranking indicates a growing challenge for Germany to maintain its leadership in AI innovation. As the US and India dominate the talent acquisition with over a million combined experts, the increasing competition from Canada emphasizes the urgent need for Germany to refine its strategies in attracting and retaining AI talent, which may influence its future innovation capabilities and national AI strategies.
