Virtual Grid, a Canadian data center company, has launched a prototype of its modular "compute node". Designed to serve as both a virtual data center and a virtual power plant, this innovative facility will be deployed across Western Canada, including British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. Each node integrates a GPU-based system paired with a 500kWh battery energy storage system from Moment Energy, aiming to enhance operational flexibility and support faster rollout. The company has 75 locations poised for development and plans gradual activation starting in 2027 with Phase 1.
