Hyperscale Power Secures €5M for Solid-State Transformer

Key Points
- 1Hyperscale Power raises €5M for solid-state transformer development.
- 2New SST aims to enhance efficiency in data centers and EVs.
- 3Funding boosts national tech innovation in clean energy solutions.
Hyperscale Power, a US-based developer of solid-state transformers (SSTs), has successfully raised €5 million ($5.7 million) in a seed funding round led by World Fund and Vsquared. This funding will be utilized to develop the company's first prototype of a miniaturized SST aimed at improving energy conversion in data centers, renewable projects, and electric vehicle charging stations. The co-founder, Daniel Rothmund, highlighted that the growing power demand from new GPU models is mismatched with traditional power systems, necessitating the innovative approach that SSTs provide.
The adoption of solid-state transformers offers a cost-effective, energy-efficient alternative to conventional iron-core transformers, addressing critical bottlenecks as the data center sector expands rapidly. Research indicates that SSTs could cut down grid losses by up to 25%. According to World Fund’s managing partner, Daria Saharova, optimizing efficiency in data centers through SSTs could lead to significant energy savings and reduction in CO2 emissions on a global scale, thereby contributing positively to national energy strategies and reducing dependence on outdated power systems.
